Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
After several photo leaks from Jeep’s Toledo, Ohio, assembly plant, Chrysler has finally given up the goods on its 2011 Jeep Wrangler, which boasts an all-new interior and an available color-matched hardtop.
Despite early rumors indicating the contrary, the automaker’s 3.6-liter Phoenix V6, introduced earlier this year in the Grand Cherokee, won’t make it to the Wrangler – yet. Instead, the Jeep’s powertrain stands put for 2011.
The same can’t be said for its interior. An all-new instrument panel, a new steering wheel, a new locking center console and revised door panels round out the major changes. The new dashboard features improved ergonomics and better quality materials, Jeep says. It retains most of the outgoing model’s basic layout – a high-mounted radio, centrally-located window controls and rotary climate control knobs. The door panels also now feature more “comfortable” touch points, Jeep says.
The dashboard-mounted passenger grab handle now features a “Jeep, Since 1941″ inlay.
The steering wheel – identical to the one unveiled in the Jeep Grand Cherokee – features audio, cruise control and Bluetooth switches, as well as a new three-spoke design. Previously, the Wrangler used a four-spoke wheel taken from the now-departed PT Cruiser.
The interior also benefits from improved sound deadening materials for both standard Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited models.
Outside, aside from several new colors – Detonator Yellow, Deep Cherry Red, Sahara Tan, Cosmos Blue and Bright White – Sahara models feature a new color-coordinated hardtop.
Look for 2011 Jeep Wranglers to begin arriving soon in dealers; Jeep says that production began earlier this week.
